Another Clue to Understanding What Happened in Uchuraccay
On January 23, 1983, General Noel, then the political-military commander of the Ayacucho zone, announced to the press that the villagers of Huaychao had killed seven Senderistas. To find out whether what General Noel joyfully announced was true, a group of eight journalists and a local guide tried to travel to Huaychao. They never made it, because a few kilometers before reaching their destination, in Uchuraccay, they met a horrific death.
