Murder of eight journalists in Uchuraccay marks a break in the conflict
Murder of eight journalists in Uchuraccay, four weeks after the armed forces entered the fight against the PCP-SL. This event caused a break in the conflict when terrible images of the violence taking place in the highlands of Ayacucho and neighboring departments were widely disseminated in the national media. In the following months there was an advance in the militarization of the conflict.
