In 1983, a group of journalists was murdered in Uchuraccay, Ayacucho. Juan Argumedo acted as the journalists' guide during this tragic event. After the tragedy, his sister Juana Lidia Argumedo denounced the responsibility of the armed forces in the events. As a result of her denunciation, Juana was arrested on September 15, 1984 and was subsequently raped while in detention.
