Women Leaders Affected by Political Violence. Protagonists of a Culture of Peace

This book pays tribute to the brave women who stood up against terrorism in Peru, among them the late María Elena Moyano, who in 1992 was assassinated in Lima by an annihilation squad of the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso. At a time when the country was mired in war, one of the voices raised against the terror of Sendero Luminoso, for the fight against poverty, and for the defense of human rights was hers. María Elena Moyano has remained in the hearts of all women and men as a symbol of the struggle for peace. She is one of the foundational women in the fight against poverty, for the upholding of human rights, and for the building of peace.
