Assessment of the Process of Displacement Due to Political Violence in Peru 1980-1997 (National Workshop)
This report is an approximation of the topic: the correlation between the variable of political violence and population displacement in Peru between 1980 and 1997, based on records from the NGOs of the regional networks that support these populations in Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurímac, Junín, and Pasco — areas where workshops were held between February and June 1997, as part of the project "Decentralized National Seminar on Reconstruction Programs in Emergency Zones in the Central and Southern Sierra of Peru," sponsored by PCS, OXFAM, and DIAKONIA Sweden. The objective of this review is to measure the demographic relevance of displacement, characterize the options (return, integration) and the stage at which they find themselves, and assess the effects on the peasant community and rural institutions — in order, based on that assessment, to identify possible trends and prospects to be taken into account by the various institutions whose work focuses on these populations, whether state or non-governmental, in defining their strategies, so as to lay the foundations for sustainable development.
