Days of Barbarism. The Prison Massacre
The relevance of this publication, within the framework of the search for truth and justice in which Peruvians are engaged, derives not only from legal considerations. The events reconstructed here shaped a decisive moment in the process of subversive violence and dirty war that had begun in 1980. Moreover, those days of June 1986 saw the materialization of ghosts and traumas whose origins occupy a large part of the political history of twentieth-century Peru and which continue to haunt the present. The ruling on compliance with the sentence issued by the CIDH in November 2002 brought to light various legal aspects of the massacre that took place at El Frontón. Beyond the procedural aspects, the El Frontón case is emblematic in relation to the process of abdication of the notion of justice in Peruvian society and the Peruvian State — a process that would culminate in the exceptional laws of Fujimorism immediately after the coup of April 5, 1992.
