Removal of General Huamán Centeno from office
Belaunde removes Gen. Huamán for political statements, not for deaths during his tenure
President Belaunde removed General Huamán from his position as head of the Political Military Command of Ayacucho on August 28, 1984. The removal was not a consequence of the numerous deaths that occurred during his tenure that year, but of his public statements that the head of the Political Military Command should have political attributions, which generated presidential suspicions of pretensions of power by the Armed Forces.
