Arrest and disappearance of journalist Jaime Ayala Sulca
Journalist Jaime Ayala Sulca detained and disappeared at Navy base in Huanta
Jaime Ayala Sulca, correspondent of the newspaper La República, disappeared after being detained at the Peruvian Navy in Huanta, Ayacucho. This case became emblematic of the repression against journalists during the internal armed conflict. The detention was carried out by members of the Navy and his disappearance was later denied by the military authorities.
