NAVY BASE IN HUANTA
Huanta Municipal Stadium, Ayacucho, converted during the years of the "state of emergency" into a Navy Counter-Subversive Base under the command of AP corvette captain Álvaro Artaza Adrianzén, "Comandante Camión." According to investigations by the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación, three events occurring in August 1984 — the killing of six evangelists in Callqui, the disappearance of journalist Jaime Ayala, and the discovery of 50 bodies in Pucayacu, Huancavelica — were ordered from this military headquarters, where murders and torture were carried out.
