Ketín Vidal's Version
The capture of Guzmán, Montesinos's reaction, and lessons for the present. "Do not let time erase memories," requests retired PNP General Antonio Ketín Vidal Herrera (68). The successes of 1992, and in particular the capture of Abimael Guzmán, are correlated with the reforms introduced throughout that year in the Dirección Nacional Contra el Terrorismo (Dincote). Vidal took over the leadership of that organization in December 1991 and asserts that the changes he made allowed GEIN to carry out its work properly, capturing 'Cachetón'. History, Vidal argues, is singular and cannot be forgotten.
