Capture of Abimael Guzman and main Shining Path leaders by GEIN
Capture in Lima of Abimael Guzmán Reinoso and some of the main leaders of the Shining Path PCP by the GEIN (Special Intelligence Group). This capture marked the end of the stage of extreme crisis and the beginning of the decline of subversive action. The subsequent scenario was marked by the defeat of Sendero Luminoso.
