Uchuraccay. Testimony of a Massacre
Before January 26, 1983, no one knew where Uchuraccay was — a locality in the province of Huanta, department of Ayacucho. After that date, it was discovered that it "existed," for it was in that remote place in the Peruvian Andes that one of the greatest tragedies in our history occurred: the death of eight journalists who were seeking to investigate the violence being perpetrated by Sendero Luminoso in those lands. These courageous journalists traveled to a secluded and distant place like Uchuraccay to uncover what was really happening. The reality — denied at the time by the Belaúnde government — was that Sendero was beginning to unleash violence and terror in Ayacucho. And the mission of these journalists was to discover the truth. (Excerpt from the introduction).
