Lucanamarca Massacre by PCP-Sendero Luminoso
PCP-SL massacres 79 community members in Lucanamarca in reprisal for the organization of patrols
The central leadership of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso directly decided to carry out this massacre in retaliation for the organization of self-defense patrols in the area and the death of one of their local cadres. The final toll was 79 community members (including children, women and the elderly) brutally murdered with machetes, knives and firearms. Abimael Guzmán himself recognized that the Central Directorate planned the action, although he admitted that there was 'excess'.
