Division of the Communist Party
Communist Party splits into Unity CP (pro-Soviet) and Red Flag CP (pro-Chinese).
In 1964, after a national conference, the Communist Party split, giving rise to the PC Unity, which assumes the official line of the Soviet Union of Nikita Kruchev, and the PC Red Flag, identified with the China of Mao Tse Tung. Most of the peasant and youth communist bases are integrated into Red Flag, while the workers' sectors mostly opt for the PC Unity. The FER in Huamanga is also affected by this division.
