Division of the Communist Party in Peru
In 1964, the Communist Party in Peru experienced a significant division following a national conference. This split resulted in the formation of two factions: PC Unidad, which aligned with the Soviet Union under Nikita Khrushchev, and PC Bandera Roja, which identified with Maoist China. The division affected various sectors, with most rural and youth bases joining Red Flag, while the working-class sectors largely supported PC Unity.
En 1964, luego de una conferencia nacional, el Partido Comunista se divide surgiendo el PC Unidad, que asume la línea oficial de la Unión Soviética de Nikita Kruchev, y el PC Bandera Roja, identificado con la China de Mao Tse Tung. La mayor parte de las bases campesinas y juveniles comunistas se integran a Bandera Roja, mientras que los sectores obreros mayoritariamente optan por el PC Unidad. Esta división afecta también al Frente Estudiantil Revolucionario (FER) en Huamanga, donde la mayoría de sus dirigentes se integran a Bandera Roja, aunque un sector disidente forma el Movimiento Universitario Revolucionario (MUR), identificado con el PC Unidad.
