Valentín Paniagua takes office after Fujimori's ouster
On November 22, Valentín Paniagua Corazao is sworn in as President of the Republic. Upon taking office, the new president states that in the eight months of his term 'there is little I can do to change things in the country'. Javier Perez de Cuellar is appointed President of the Council of Ministers. This transitional government marks the end of the Fujimori regime.
