Assassination of Ricardo Ramos Plata
Ricardo Ramos Plata, the president of the Aprista Committee of Piura, was assassinated by terrorist elements on 14 December 1988. This event prompted the archbishop and clergy of Piura to express their sorrow and condemn the rising violence in the region. Tensions arose between the clergy and members of the Aprista government following the incident.
El 14 de diciembre de 1988, elementos terroristas asesinaron a Ricardo Ramos Plata, ingeniero y presidente del Comité Aprista de Piura. A raíz de este hecho, el arzobispo y el clero de Piura emitieron un pronunciamiento manifestando su pesar por lo ocurrido y su rechazo de la violencia que comenzaba a hacerse presente en el departamento. Sin embargo, este pronunciamiento generó tensiones con miembros del gobierno aprista.
