Assassinations in Tarapoto by MRTA
In 1989, eight individuals were assassinated in Tarapoto, Peru, by the MRTA, a subversive organization. The victims included César Marcelino Carvajal, Max Pérez Velásquez, Luis Mogollón, Alberto Chong Rojas, Rafael Gonzales, Carlos Piedra, Raúl Chumbe Rodríguez, and Jhony Achuy. These acts were part of a broader campaign by the MRTA to instill fear and legitimize their actions by exploiting societal prejudices against homosexuality.
Ocho personas fueron asesinadas en Tarapoto por el MRTA: César Marcelino Carvajal, Max Pérez Velásquez, Luis Mogollón, Alberto Chong Rojas, Rafael Gonzales, Carlos Piedra, Raúl Chumbe Rodríguez y Jhony Achuy. El mando regional del MRTA era Sístero García Torres, quien posteriormente se acogería a la ley de arrepentimiento.
