Does Stigma Generate Depoliticization? Participation, Stigmatization from Political Violence and Rejection of Shining Path at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos
During the period of political violence that Peru experienced at the end of the 20th century, the repression of activism at several public universities was accompanied by a strong stigmatization of these institutions, followed by a massive political demobilization among students. At present, forms of political disaffection persist in this population, but it has not been sufficiently investigated whether this is related to stigma. This paper examines this problem based on ethnographic and statistical data obtained at the Universidad de San Marcos (UNMSM). (Excerpt from the introductory summary).
