The Long Agony of Edmundo Camana
Edmundo Camana was one of the survivors of the killing of 69 peasants in Lucanamarca. He was 34 years old when his face was captured by a camera in a hospital in Huamanga. A machete split his skull open and left him permanently injured. It happened on April 3, 1983. This week marked thirty years since one of the greatest atrocities perpetrated by Sendero Luminoso. The fate of this man summarizes that of the thousands of Peruvians who died in a time of barbarism.
