Chuschi Case

On March 14, 1991, an Army patrol from the Pampa Cangallo Military Barracks, made up of approximately 25 soldiers, entered the town of Chuschi, in the province of Cangallo, Ayacucho. Once there, while some soldiers fired shots and detonated explosives—simulating a Shining Path incursion—military personnel together with police officers from the Chuschi police post raided homes in the town searching for civilian and community authorities. After detaining them, they were transferred to the Pampa Cangallo Military Barracks. Since then, and despite pressure from the community and national and international organizations, the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.
