Economy Under Violence: Peru, 1980–1990
Since 1980, Peru has been transformed into a country whose social, political, and economic life is progressively marked by violence. The onset and subsequent development of the subversive and terrorist actions of Sendero Luminoso first, and later the MRTA, along with the growing cultivation of coca leaves and the production and trafficking of basic cocaine paste, have turned the Peruvian economy into one of extremely high risk and uncertainty.
