City of the Condemned
Lima in Peruvian cinema in the late 1980s and early 1990s. What was the cinematic image of the capital at a time when an internal war and a severe economic crisis were being experienced in the country? Did the city of Lima in those films released before the explosion of the bomb on calle Tarata appear as an urban environment alien to the violence ravaging the Andes, or, on the contrary, was it shown as a zone under threat, if not already entirely invaded by death? To answer these questions we have chosen to analyze three films: Juliana, Caídos del cielo, and Alias La Gringa.
