FORCED STERILIZATION IN PERU
In Peru, between 1995 and 2000, the second government of former President Alberto Fujimori Fujimori launched an aggressive nationwide sterilization campaign aimed, in effect, at preventing births in the poorest and most remote areas of the country. This policy was directed primarily at illiterate, Quechua-speaking rural and peasant women. This Family Planning Program was funded by major international organizations that actively participated in its implementation.
