Justice Was Done in Chuschi

It took more than 16 years for the next of kin of Manuel Pacotaype, Martín Cayllahua, Marcelo Cabana, and Isaías Huamán to find justice. Their case was that of so many thousands of humble Peruvians from whom State forces took fathers, husbands, and sons. But unlike what happens in the majority of cases, this time the system told them that, though late, it could work. On Monday, November 12, the Special Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the military personnel who, one night in March 1991, in the district of Chuschi, in Ayacucho, took their loved ones.
