Weapons for Peace

In this work of reflection and research, Pedraglio, an important leader of the Peruvian left, analyzes this phenomenon from his own point of view. He situates the problem of violence within the framework of the unresolved contradictions of our history and maintains that the type of violence the country is experiencing today is an exacerbation of styles of domination and forms of the exercise of anti-democratic power that have characterized Peru. In "Armas para la paz" Pedraglio devotes special attention to the analysis of the conceptions and strategies underlying the logic of action of the main protagonists of violence in the country, namely Sendero Luminoso and the armed forces. From this he offers a severe questioning of the theoretical and political matrix of the anti-subversive doctrines implemented in the country, concluding with what are considered fundamental guidelines for an integral democratic security strategy that can serve as the foundation for peace in Peru. In that part of the work, Pedraglio advances his thesis on the role of the armed forces, the participation of the population, decentralization, the need for a pact with the peasantry, etc.
