The Generation of the Eighties. The Years of Violence
"La generacion del 80: los anos de la violencia," the fourth and final part of the Tensiones Generacionales series, presents the work of the most representative Peruvian visual artists born between 1954 and 1969 and attempts to explain how they respond to the circumstances of their time, that is, to the violence unleashed in the decade of the eighties. But not only to violence, but also to other aesthetic interests such as ancestralism and the search for identity, realism and the city, subjectivism and the new perspectives of postmodernism. As for the methodology followed in this study, I have remained faithful to the list of generations of painters proposed in the first Tensiones Generacionales exhibition, which was the general program for the four that followed, namely Los independientes, De abstraccionismos, informalismos y otras historias.
