First cycle of hiker violence in Ayacucho
First cycle of intense Shining Path violence concentrated in Ayacucho between 1982-1985
Between 1982 and 1985, the first cycle of intense violence of the internal armed conflict took place, concentrated basically in the department of Ayacucho. During these years, about a third of the murders perpetrated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso reported to the CVR were committed. This cycle was related to the PCP-SL's attempt to impose its model of social structure through the Popular Committees, the growing resistance of the Ayacucho peasant population to the Shining Path's totalitarian project, and the intervention of the Armed Forces in the conflict.
