The Barrios Altos massacre. Part I
Documentary broadcast on December 9, 2007, by Canal N on the eve of the start of Alberto Fujimori's trial. Directed by journalist Bruno de Olazábal, the report reviews the so-called "Barrios Altos Massacre," perpetrated on November 3, 1991, in the Barrios Altos district, a traditional and working-class area of central Lima, Peru. Fifteen people were killed and four others were wounded by attackers who were subsequently identified as members of the Grupo Colina, a paramilitary unit made up of members of the Peruvian Armed Forces. This massacre was seen as a symbol of the human rights violations committed during the government of President Alberto Fujimori and was one of the crimes cited by the Peruvian government in its extradition request submitted to Japan in 2003.
