Alan García and the prison massacre
Journalistic report on the so-called "Prison Massacre." On June 18 and 19, 1986, military forces suppressed a riot by terrorism inmates at the El Frontón, Lurigancho, and Santa Bárbara women's prisons, resulting in the deaths of more than 300 inmates. Using disproportionate force and despite the fact that the inmates had surrendered, military personnel carried out extrajudicial executions. After these events, the President of the Republic, Alan García, publicly declared that investigations would be launched to clarify the case; however, he allowed it to be referred to Military Justice.
