Victims of the Molinos clash

Victims of the Molinos confrontation. On April 28, 1989, in that district of the province of Jauja, Junín, Army members clashed with an MRTA column. During the fighting, 63 subversives and six Army members were killed; additionally 19 soldiers were wounded. After the confrontation, security forces conducted a sweep operation in the districts of Huertas and Los Molinos and detained several local residents, some of whom were extrajudicially executed and others disappeared after being taken to Fuerte Cáceres and the Cuartel 9 de Diciembre. Ultimately, 63 bodies were received at the morgue of Jauja's hospital. Five of them belonged to people who were not members of either group in conflict (three residents and two transport workers). Three MRTA member corpses were identified by their relatives and 55 were buried as unidentified (NN).
