Assassination of naval attaché Juan Vega Llona in Bolivia by PCP-SL command in revenge
The naval attaché of the Peruvian Embassy in Bolivia, Juan Vega Llona, was assassinated in La Paz by a PCP-SL commando acting under the name of the Revolutionary Workers Movement (MOR). Vega Llona had been in the emergency zone of Ayacucho in 1984 and intervened in the debellation of the prison riot in June 1986. Gaston Tineo, commander of a PCP-SL military detachment in Lima, was killed in the El Fronton massacre. The murder was perpetrated in revenge for Gaston's death. Shortly after, DIRCOTE arrested Tania Tineo, Gaston's younger sister, in Juliaca, proving that she was responsible for the murder.
