MRTA-PCP-SL struggle at the National University of Central Peru (Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú)
Since 1986, the struggle between the MRTA and the PCP-SL for control of space at the National University of Central Peru in Huancayo, where both subversive organizations competed for influence among students, became evident.
In 1984 there already existed in Huancayo a nucleus of MRTA militants who began to participate in debates and acts of protest carried out at the National University of Central Peru (UNCP) by the students. The struggle between the MRTA and the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso (PCP-SL) for control of these university spaces was clearly evident since 1986. This dispute was part of the competition between the two subversive organizations to gain influence in the student and academic sphere in the central region of the country.
