Massacre of the Penales and Subsequent Teacher Protests
Following the massacre of the penales, the SUTEP leadership publicly demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and information about the teachers who were killed or disappeared. They also called for the release of 45 teachers imprisoned across the country, accused of participating in terrorist activities. This period saw religious acts and tributes to the fallen teachers, highlighting the ongoing struggle for teachers' rights and the establishment of a proposed Human Rights Secretariat within SUTEP.
Después de la masacre de los penales, la dirigencia del SUTEP reclamó públicamente una investigación exhaustiva del hecho e información sobre los profesores internos muertos y desaparecidos. También exigió la libertad de 45 docentes presos en diversos puntos del país acusados de participar en acciones terroristas solo por reclamar incumplimientos del gobierno. Durante esa semana, se realizaron actos religiosos por los mártires del magisterio y una romería al cementerio El Ángel que homenajeó a los profesores caídos en luchas sindicales y en los penales.
