Renunciation and Conflict within the MRTA
In January 1992, significant internal conflicts within the MRTA (Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement) led to the resignation of several key members, including Sístero García Torres and Alberto Gálvez Olaechea. The departure of these members, particularly in the Northeastern Front, resulted in armed confrontations between the MRTA and dissidents, as well as with the Peruvian Army. These events significantly weakened the MRTA's military strength and control in the region.
