Assassination of Maria Elena Moyano
Maria Elena Moyano, a prominent community leader, was brutally assassinated by the PCP-SL on 15 February 1992. Her murder marked a turning point in the perception of the PCP-SL, as their violent tactics began to instill fear rather than garner support among the local population. This event highlighted the group's failure to establish a sustainable social base and contributed to the eventual decline of their influence in the region.
