First General Blackout in Lima and Subsequent Attacks
On 29 March 1982, Lima experienced its first general blackout, lasting over two hours, followed by a series of synchronized dynamite attacks. This event marked a significant shift in the perception of the Shining Path (PCP-SL), which was previously considered a regional threat confined to Ayacucho. The scale of the attacks indicated a broader reach and capability of the group within the national territory.
El 29 de marzo de 1982 se registró el primer apagón general en Lima, que se extendió por más de dos horas y fue seguido de una serie sincronizada de atentados dinamiteros perpetrados por Sendero Luminoso. Este evento fue de gran impacto pues modificó las hipótesis sobre la real magnitud del PCP-SL, que hasta ese momento era considerado prácticamente una expresión regional localizada en Ayacucho. Los ataques selectivos de SL en Lima se intensificaron en los años siguientes: en 1982 se registraron 46 atentados con 57 víctimas, en 1983 fueron 33 con 37 víctimas, en 1984 sumaron 25 atentados y 29 víctimas, y en 1985 hubo 38 atentados con 37 víctimas.
