Resignation of President Alberto Fujimori and Transition of Power

In November 2000, President Alberto Fujimori of Peru announced his resignation while on a trip to Asia. His resignation was confirmed by the President of the Council of Ministers, Federico Salas Guevara, and was followed by the resignation of the cabinet to allow for a new government. On November 22, Valentín Paniagua Corazao was sworn in as the new President of Peru, marking a transition of power.

Alberto Fujimori Fujimori anuncia su renuncia desde Asia el 19 de noviembre de 2000, confirmada oficialmente por el Presidente del Consejo de Ministros Federico Salas Guevara. Tras la renuncia presidencial, el segundo vicepresidente Ricardo Márquez Flores asume la jefatura del estado. El 22 de noviembre, Valentín Paniagua Corazao jura como Presidente de la República, designando a Javier Pérez de Cuéllar como Presidente del Consejo de Ministros e incorporando generales retirados en las carteras de Defensa e Interior.
