PCP-SL Presence and Impact in the Ene Region
In 1995, the PCP-SL (Shining Path) retreated towards the Ene region in Peru, leading to a temporary sense of tranquility in the area. However, the threat of PCP-SL persisted, prompting local communities to continue vigilance. The region, historically inhabited by the Asháninka and Nomatsiguenga peoples, faced significant challenges due to colonization and the violent activities of PCP-SL, which included attacks, kidnappings, and assassinations.
Hacia 1995, PCP-SL se replegó hacia la región del Ene tras su accionar en la zona de la Marginal, que une La Merced y Satipo. Durante décadas anteriores, los senderistas llegaron utilizando corredores desde la cuenca del río Ene a partir de mediados de los años 80, realizando ataques, saqueos, secuestros de niños y jóvenes, y asesinatos selectivos. Estas acciones generaron desplazamiento masivo de comunidades nativas Asháninka y Nomatsiguenga, así como de colonos, hacia las ciudades. Aunque hubo cierta presencia del MRTA en la zona, fueron desplazados por PCP-SL.
