Capture of PCP-SL Leadership and Disruption of Operations
In June 1990, the Peruvian police successfully raided the Department of Apoyo Organizativo (DAO) in Monterrico Norte, Lima, which was a significant operational hub for the PCP-SL. This raid led to the discovery of the true extent of the Shining Path's presence in Lima and resulted in the capture of key members of the organization. The operation disrupted the activities of the PCP-SL, revealing their complex network and leading to further arrests of operatives.
La Dirección Central del PCP-SL, conformada por el Buró Político y el Comité Permanente, fue desarticulada con la captura de Abimael Guzmán en setiembre de 1992. Esta dirección, ubicada en Chacarilla del Estanque, estaba a cinco minutos del Departamento de Apoyo Organizativo (DAO) que había sido allanado por la policía en junio de 1990. El allanamiento del DAO permitió el descubrimiento de la verdadera presencia del estado mayor senderista en Lima y la incautación de documentos que facilitaron la detención de miembros operativos del Grupo de Trabajo Especial (GTE) y del Grupo de Apoyo Partidario (GAP).
