CVR public hearings: Lima. Thematic hearing, violence against women. September 2002

The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the special public hearing on violence against women, held in the city of Lima in September 2002, where testimony was presented by: Nemesia Bautista Oré, sexually violated and tortured by SL members; Marina Janampa Vallejos, arbitrarily detained and accused of terrorism by police officers; Dina Hidalgo Bilombo, a victim — along with several family members — of a terrorist attack carried out by SL members; María Cecilia Malpartida, kidnapped and tortured by SL members.
