CVR public hearings: Lima. July 2002

The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the public hearings held in the city of Lima in June 2002, where testimony was presented by: Eleuterio Zarate Luján, arbitrarily detained and accused of terrorism; Magdalena Monteza, tortured and raped by military troops; Juan Mallea Tomailla, arbitrarily detained and accused of terrorism; Mayela Huamán Morales, detained and tortured along with her brothers Óscar, Luis, and Pablo, by police officers.
