CVR public hearings: Huancayo and Huancavelica, May 2002

The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the public hearings held in the cities of Huancayo and Huancavelica in May 2002, where testimony was presented by: the sister of Irma Juscamayta and her daughters, kidnapped and murdered by ronderos; relatives of the residents of Pichanaki, extrajudicially executed by army troops; relatives of Víctor Lozano Lozano and Manuel Soto Sullca, murdered by SL; relatives of residents of the Huasahuasi community, murdered by SL; relatives of Alejandro Quispe Anicama, murdered by SL; the Quispe Sacsara family, whose members were raped, tortured, and murdered by members of SL and the MRTA; members of the native community of Puerto Ocopa, murdered and tortured by SL; relatives of Víctor Bendezú and Aurelio Ccasani, murdered by SL; a survivor of the murder of residents of the community of Manta, massacred by army soldiers; relatives of residents of the Santa Bárbara community, extrajudicially executed by army troops; relatives of Víctor Gonzalo Mejía, disappeared by SL; Joaquín Riveros Poma, tortured by members of the national police; relatives of Hilario Ayuque, disappeared by police and army personnel; relatives of Rodolfo Aguilar Jurado, disappeared by paramilitaries.
