CVR public hearings: Huanta. April 2002

The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the public hearing held in the city of Huanta (Ayacucho) on April 11 and 12, 2002, where testimony was presented by: relatives of the journalists murdered in Uchuraccay in 1983; police sub-officer Víctor Huaraca Cule, a victim of Sendero Luminoso; the wife of Humberto Tenorio Roca, who was disappeared by Navy personnel; Mrs. René Santa Cruz, wife of the former mayor of Huanta, Víctor Raúl Yangali, murdered by Sendero Luminoso.
