IACHR Court Backs Victims in Response to the Pardon Granted to Alberto Fujimori

International human rights organizations and Peruvian civil society organizations issue a statement regarding the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Corte IDH) determining that the pardon granted to former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori does not comply with Peru's international obligations. In particular, the Inter-American Court addressed the duty to investigate and punish the serious human rights violations that occurred in the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta cases, and determined that Peruvian judicial bodies must promptly evaluate the granting of the pardon and report to the Corte IDH on the outcome.
