Fleeing Violence and Building. Women and Displacement Due to Political Violence in Peru
This article describes the path to consciousness of which Peruvian women were protagonists during the era of political violence. Spontaneous organizations, formed in the context of forced migration caused by the civil war, were the setting for a learning journey that led Peruvian women — of low social and educational status, Quechua-speaking, and from rural areas — from the silence of their traditional condition to political discourse and action. This allows us to analyze the changes and resistance to them, as well as the status of women in Peru before, during, and after the civil war.
