Peru in Flames
Much has already been written about Shining Path and the revolutionary war it began 11 years ago in Peru, but perhaps the first serious, dispassionate, and comprehensive work on the subject is the recent one by journalist Gustavo Gorriti Ellenbogen: Sendero. Historia de la guerra milenaria en el Perú. Lima. Apoyo, 1990. This is a first volume, covering the Shining Path insurgency from its beginnings in 1979 to 1982, to be followed by two more, with details of terrorist activity from then to the present and the history of the political and ideological genesis of Sendero as a Maoist offshoot of the Peruvian Communist Party.
