The Last Interview
The National Criminal Chamber sentenced, on June 7, 2013, the leader of Shining Path in the Alto Huallaga, 'Artemio,' to life imprisonment for the crimes of terrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundering. In December 2011, IDL-Reporteros published an exclusive interview with the Shining Path leader in the Alto Huallaga, which turned out to be the last—and certainly the most revealing—that 'Artemio' gave before being wounded and captured two months later. Today, following his conviction, that interview regains journalistic relevance. For this reason, IDL-R publishes it again, in its two parts: the first originally published on December 6 and the second the following day.
