The Accomarca Massacre: August 14, 1985
On August 14, 1985, 69 peasants from the Ayacuchan district of Accomarca were extrajudicially executed in the area known as LLoccllapampa by military personnel belonging to the Political-Military Command of Ayacucho, who were under the orders of General Wilfredo Mori Orzo. The Comisión de la Verdad investigated the Accomarca case and presented its report in August 2003. That same year, the case was reopened by the Human Rights Prosecutor's Office of Ayacucho, which filed formal charges in February 2005 against senior military and civilian commanders, including former president Alan García Pérez. Despite the evidence and proof presented by prosecutor Cristina Olazabal Ochoa, Judge Walter Castillo closed the case against the former president and other high-ranking officials, opening proceedings on May 31, 2005 against Mori Orzo and 27 officers and subordinates as those responsible for the executions at Accomarca.
