Fujimori Confesses
Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori acknowledged two secret memoranda he signed in 1991 to reward military commanders and subordinates, shortly before they organized a death squad and murdered 25 suspects alleged to be members of the insurgent group Sendero Luminoso. Both documents are key pieces for establishing the direct link between the ruler of Peru from 1990 to 2000 and the intelligence apparatus controlled by his then-adviser, Vladimiro Montesinos, from which the so-called Colina group emerged — the organization of Army Intelligence Service (SIE) agents that was part of the military institution's structure.
